The monetary unit of Korea is Won (KRW). Korean currency consists of 10, 50, 100 and 500 won coins, and 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 50,000 won bills. The exchange rate is approximately US$1 to KRW 1,090 as of December 2017. Most of the businesses in Korea widely accept credit card payments at major hotels, department stores, large restaurants, and stores; Visa, Master, American Express, Diner’s Club and other credit cards can be used.

Banks and foreign exchange offices

Banks are open from 09:00 to 16:00 on weekdays. They are closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Major currencies and traveler’s cheques can be exchanged into Korean Won(₩) at the airports, hotels, currency exchange shops and all Korean banks.

Cash machines / ATMs

Users of overseas credit cards should use an ATM with a ‘Global’ sign or the logo of their card company. The operating hours of ATMs are usually between 08:00 and 23:00. ATMs are located at major stations, airports and convenience stores. The currency available for withdrawal is Korean Won(₩) only.
